    Sathosa provides relief package for Sinhala and Hindu New Year

    Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that the Sathosa relief package containing 12 essential food items could be purchased from Sathosa outlets across the country from yesterday (01) onward for a sum of Rs.1000.

     

    The Minister informed this at a media briefing held at the Trade Ministry on March (31).

    The newly introduced relief package includes 1kg of white raw rice, 1kg of redraw rice, 1kg of nadu rice, white sugar 1kg, dal 1kg, flour 1kg, salt packet, sprats 250g, chili pieces packet, soya meat packet, a pack of tea leaves, and a face mask.

    The relief package is introduced in line with the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.

    Minister Gunawardena said that even amidst a global pandemic, the Government has taken steps to provide a relief package for the general public to ensure the well being of the citizens. He further added that compared to other years, there will be no increase in prices during the festive season.

    Furthermore, people can purchase 1kg of Dhal, for Rs.180 which was sold for Rs. 190 in January, a milk powder packet which was sold for Rs.385 for Rs.355, 1kg of Potatoes at Rs. 150 and 1kg of big onions at Rs. 70 from Sathosa outlets island-wide.

    Secretary to the Ministry of Trade Bhadrani Jayawardena, Chairman of Lak Sathosa General Ananda Peiris and many other officials were present on the occasion.
