A formal Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented by troops of the Sri Lanka Artillery at the Army Headquarters grounds greeted the guest who formally reviewed the parade before he received the honours from a special dais. He was received by Major General Sena Waduge, Adjutant General on arrival at the grounds.
Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva afterwards extended a warm welcome to the Air Force Chief at the main entrance to the Commander’s Secretariat.
During the brief meeting with the Commander of the Army, they exchanged views on ongoing tri-service commitment in operational aspects against COVID-19 transmission and other general matters of importance to both services. They also recalled past memories and collective responsibilities they shouldered as ground-level commanders and shared views on existing cooperation between both organizations.
Extending best wishes on his retirement, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva awarded a memento to the Air Force Commander towards the culmination of the interactive meeting. The gesture was reciprocated. Before his exit from the Commander’s office, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias placed his signature in the VIP visitors’ book as a symbol of memory.
