    Troops with Southerner's Support Build New Homes for LTTE Woman Combatant & Deserving Family in Jaffna

    Security Forces-Jaffna extending their magnanimity towards a former LTTE combatant turned widow in Alawai and generosity to a deserving woman in Vallipuram, through financial support given by South-based reputed banker cum Former Vice President and Business Manager, MasterCard International South Asia, Mr Kumar Weerasuriya who has been instrumental in donating homes for the homeless with his colleagues in close coordination with Jaffna troops, erected two more news houses and vested them in beneficiaries on Monday (19) during simple ceremonies.

    The much- needed manpower and technical expertise for construction work was provided by 4 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 16 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops of the 551 Brigade of the 55 Division, commanded by Major General Sisira Pilapitiya, General Officer Commanding under the supervision of the 551 Brigade Commander. The inaugural warming ceremony was graced by Major General Senerath Bandara, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna and representatives of the donors.

    The beneficiary, Mrs K. Sudakar, a former combatant is now a widow undergoing hardships with two children and without a proper dwelling when her situation was brought to the notice of the 55 Division HQ and SFHQ-J. The plight of the other recipient, Mrs S Ranjan Nandani of Jaffna was intimated to the SFHQ-J by the respective Grama Seva official, responsible in her residential area.

    Mr Weerasuriya who has continuously supported the troops for this humanitarian commitment of house-building, confident of the troops' expertise wanted those two new houses were also built by the troops on his behalf as he was ready to buy raw materials for both houses. During warming ceremonies, sponsors and troops jointly gifted a stock of home appliances and several necessary items for both houses after auspicious warming and handover of keys to the new houses.

    Religious dignitaries, Additional Divisional Secretary - Karaveddi, Major General Sisira Pilapitiya, General Officer Commanding 55 Division, Headquarters Inspector of Point Pedro Police Station, Brigadier General Staff, Security Forces – Jaffna, Brigadier Prasanna Ranawaka, 551 Brigade Commander and other Brigade Commanders under the 55 Division, Staff Officers of the 55 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Sujeewa Dasanayake, Commanding Officer, 4 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Major Theekshana Rathnayake, Commanding Officer, 16 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Government Officials, well wishers and troops who built those homes participated in the warming ceremonies in keeping with health guidelines.
