    The 20th Amendment to be debated on the 21 st and 22 nd of October

    The meeting held Oct: (16) of the Committee on Parliamentary Business decided to debate the 20th Amendment to the Constitution in Parliament on the 21 st and 22 nd October2020.


    Accordingly, the determination of the Supreme Court on the 20th Amendment will be read in Parliament by the Hon. Speaker on 20 th October.
    The Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by the Hon. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, decided to hold the debate scheduled for the 21 st and the 22 nd of October from 10.00 am to 7.30 pm. The Committee Stage of Bill will commence on the 22 nd of October at 7.30 pm post the debate.


    Meanwhile, the Committee also decided to take into debate three Regulations under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act on the 20 th of October from 10.00 am. The adjournment debate by the Government will be taken up for debate from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm on the same day.


    It was also decided that the Vote of Condolences of the late ex-Members of Parliament R. R. W Rajapakse, K. P. Silva and Surangani Ellawala are scheduled to be present on the 23 rd of this October.
    Hon. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Hon. Deputy Speaker Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Hon. Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena, Hon. Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando, Hon. Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella, Hon. Ministers Chamal Rajapaksa, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Prof. G.L Peiris, Douglas Devananda, Dullas Alahapperuma, Mahinda Amaraweera, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Prasanna Ranatunga, Ali Sabri and MPs Mahinda Samarasinghe, Gayantha Karunatilake, Rauff Hakeem, Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, Dilan Perera, Ranjith Maddumabandara, and Mano Ganesan as well as the Secretary General of Parliament Dhamika Dassanayake and the Deputy Secretary General and Chief of Staff Neil Iddawela were present at the meeting.
