    Postal voting applications accepted between March 06 to 16

    Accepting applications for postal voting will commence on March 06th  and continue until March 16th , for the General Election to be held on April 25th, Chairman of the National Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya said.

    The General Election 2020 is to be held on 25th  April, following the dissolution of Parliament with effect from midnight on Monday (02).  Meanwhile, nominations will be called for from March 12 -19th.

    The Voter Registration List of 2019 will be used at the General Election 2020, the Election Commission Director (Policy Planning) Channa P. Silva told the Government News Portal. He said they anticipated around 600,000 postal vote applications.  

    Meanwhile, in order to provide assistance in filling out the postal voting forms, the Election Commission has set up assistance service centers at Sethsiripaya- Battaramulla, Labour Secretariat- Narahenpita, Fisheries, and Aquatic Resources Ministry- Maligawatte, Postal Headquarters- Battaramulla and Isurupaya-Battaramulla, Channa P. Silva said.

    Addressing the electronic media institution heads today, the Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said that the closing date for postal voting applications would not be extended under any circumstance.
