After the dissolution of parliament, the date for nominations would be notified through a Gazette notification and the date set for the election would thereafter be notified.

The Deputy Election Commissioner added that thereafter the political parties and independent candidates would be instructed on how the deposits should be made and the dates for the postal votes. This would be notified through a special circular issued by the Election Commission.

Meanwhile, the Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has summoned all District Secretaries to Colombo for a special meeting regarding the general election on March 05th.

As there are around 271,000 new voters registered for the general election, the Deputy Election Commissioner said that special emphasis would be placed on increasing the number of polling stations in order to accommodate the additional voters
