Senior journalist Mohan Samaranayake has been appointed as the Director General of Presidential Media. He assumed office yesterday.With four decades of experience in the field of journalism, Samaranayake entered the journalism profession as an assistant writer of the Dawasa newspaper.
Thereafter, he served as an Assistant Editor of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and held the position of News Director of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation for nearly five years.He later served as the head of the United Nations Information Center in Colombo and for a long time served as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.Mr. Mohan Samaranayake also served as the President's Spokesman.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
