The Constitutional Council has approved appointment of Elections Secretariat Director General Saman Sri Rathnayake as the new Elections Commissioner General of the National Elections CommissionThe decision to appoint was taken at a meeting held today by the Constitutional Council. His appointment will be effective from today
Rathnayake, was serving as the Acting Elections Commissioner General while holding office as the Director General of the Elections Secretariat to fill the void of a designated offical.The Constitutional Council recently asked the Elections Commission to nominate a permanent Commissioner General as the Presidential Election cannot be held under an acting officer according to legal provisions.
