SriLankan, Mihin Lanka Commission report tomorrow Featured

    July 01, 2019

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing malpractices at SriLankan Airlines, SriLankan Catering and Mihin Lanka Private Limited, will hand over its final report to President Maithripala Sirisena tomorrow (2nd) at 12.00 noon at the Presidential Secretariat. Five members of the Commission, including its Chairman, retired Supreme Court Judge Anil Goonaratne and retired Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Neil Unamboowe PC, who led the prosecutors’ team from the Attorney General’s Department, will participate in this occasion, Commission Secretary Ariyadasa Cooray said.

The Commission was appointed by President Sirisena in February 2018 to probe malpractices that allegedly took place in these three institutions within the period January 1, 2006 to January 31, 2018. The term of the Presidential Commission ended yesterday (30) after several extensions given to it by the President. Although many witnesses appeared before the commission for their testimony, most of the key figures facing allegations did not appear in person for the public hearings. Instead, they had sent affidavits.
Supreme Court Justice Gamini Rohan Amarasekara, Retired High Court Judge Piyasena Ranasinghe, Retired Deputy Auditor General Don Anthony Harald and the Director General of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board Wasantha Jayaseeli Kapugama were the other members of the Commission.
The prosecuting team included Deputy Solicitors General Shanaka Wijesinghe and Milinda Pathirana, Senior State Counsel Disna Warnakula and Fazly Razik, and State Counsel Chathura Gunatilake, Leshan Ratnayake and Sajith Bandara.
