    PM says host of counter-terrorism measures undertaken by Govt Featured

    The Government has undertaken the responsibility of putting into action a host of counter-terrorism measures to prevent the re-emergence of Islamic State (ISIS) in Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said. The Prime Minister, observing that racism is the base of ISIS terrorism, said that counter-terrorism measures have to be formulated grasping this reality.     Participating in a ceremony held at Sangamitta College in Matale on Saturday to commence a regional programme titled “take public service to the village”, the Prime Minister said, the country has gradually returned to normalcy after the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

    “Zahran’s terrorism may not end with the end of National Thawheed Jamath. When one disease is eliminated, another disease can spread. We should keep this in mind and have long term strategies to prevent any kind of the terrorist activities in the country again. Otherwise we cannot face the future with confidence. Now the Cabinet has undertaken this responsibility,” Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said.

    “We have paid attention to bring in new laws. The countries like the UK have banned people from travelling to countries like Syria. We must consider those aiding extremism, terrorism and violence as offences. The Internet must be controlled to some extent.All intelligent divisions must work together against ISIS terrorism. We have to obtain the assistance of foreign intelligent services too,” the Prime Minister said.
