    20,000 graduates for public service

    Minister of Lands and Parliamentary Reforms Gayantha Karunathilaka said that steps have been taken to recruit 20,000 graduates to the public service.


    He made these comments recently at an awareness seminar organized for Advanced level qualified students by the Ministry of Public Administration under the ‘Yovun Saviya 2017’ program.

     

    Minister Karunathilaka said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, a program to create one million jobs has been launched. In addition, with the changes to the education system, the thirteen-year schooling will become mandatory.

     


    Minister Karunathilaka said that PM Wickremesinghe during his earlier ministerial tenures introduced the National Youth Services Council, Youth Clubs, and National Colleges of Education for the educated youth and initiated educational reforms. This time too education is being changed to cater to the needs of the job market, he added.
