Web Journalists yesterday (18th Aug.) hailed the government’s decision to remove the10% telecommunications levy imposed on data. They urged the government that a concession be provided to post paid data packages as it has done to the pre paid packages.
They said the government has positively responded to their request and it will lead to increase the readers’ accessibility for news websites.
Addressing media yesterday at the Department of Government Information they urged Media Minister that a comprehensive training program be provided to web journalists regarding media ethics.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
News.lk publishes in three languages – Sinhala, Tamil and English.
