Minister of Parliamentary Reform and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilake recently paid a courtesy call on the Chief Prelates of the Malwaththa and Asgiriya Chapters and briefed them on the recently passed Right to Information Act.
When the Minister explained tothe Chief Prelates the usefulness of the Act for the public and the services rendered by the Act, it was appreciated by them and they praised the minister for being able to bring such an important Act.
Director General of Government Information Dr. Ranga Kalansooriya was also present.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
