Reconstructed “Lanka Puwath” website, a state-owned news portal with detailed news of state development programs and the policies, was recently launched by the Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilake.
“Lanka Puwath” website was established in 1978 by Esmond Wickremesinghe following a UNESCO concept. Nanda Muruththettuwegama, the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation has been appointed as the new Chairman of the website and Mrs.Dulma Kandaramage will be the CEO.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
News.lk publishes in three languages – Sinhala, Tamil and English.
