    Ambassador Ranaviraja Presents Credentials to UNESCO Director General

    Sri Lanka Ambassador and Permanent Delegate H.E. Tilak Ranaviraja, presented credentials today, 06th October 2015, to UNESCO Director General Madam Irina Bokova at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France.

    During his meeting with the Director General, Ambassador Ranaviraja underlined the importance of UNESCO to Sri Lanka, and in particular stressed upon the significance of it's intercultural dialogue for peace.  The Ambassador expressed Sri Lanka's continuing commitment to work closely with UNESCO to promote sustainable development, education and culture.

     

    Madam Bokovo, expressed warm sentiments towards Sri Lanka and her people and commended the different initiatives undertaken by the country in UNESCO which had led to great moments of celebration of culture.  She also acknowledged the efforts taken by Sri Lanka in promoting the concept of ‘Education for all’ initiative promulgated by the organization. 

     

    UNESCO is a specialized agency of the United Nations system whose primary objective is to contribute to peace and security through cooperation programs in the areas of education, culture, the sciences and communication and information.
