    January 31, 2015

Ministers and MPs in the former government had robbed nearly Rs 1,300 billion in public money and the Janatha Vimukthi... . Peramuna (JVP) claims it had received nearly 2,000 complaints against those politicians within last two weeks.

Voice against Corruption (VAC) convener and JVP North-Central Provincial Councillor Wasantha Samarasinghe said, attempts were being made to change existing evidence against these politicians by obtaining information from the Bribery Commission. He urged the government to enforce the law against those who were involved in corruption.

"The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) should be more active as it can implement the law strictly on those who were involved in corruption," he added.

He said, VAC is hoping to hand over the evidence regarding the corruption that took place in the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

Samarasinghe added that massive corruption had taken place in the Sri Lanka Phosphate Company as well.

"Several financial institutions, listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) were closed down and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was well aware of this," he added. He urged the government to conduct an advance audit with the support of experienced auditors and noted that the public elected the new government to punish corrupt.
