Sri Lanka Navy troops under the Northern Command donated books to more than a thousand children studying in schools in the Northern islets. The social welfare initiative was carried out in order to provide assistance to uplift the educational standards of the children of under privileged families in the region. The Navy in its endeavor to assist these deserving children was generously assisted by many well-wishers. People living in these islets undergo numerous hardships due to their location and harsh living conditions. The book donation programme was conducted under the guidance of the Commander of the Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva. Children studying in RC Ladies College, Delft Maha Vidyalaya and Saivapraksh Vidyalaya in Delft, J/Parameswara Vidyalaya in Veththalakerni J/Punguduthivu Rajarajeswary Tamil Mixed Vidyalaya in Punguduthivu, J/Madagal Nunasai Vidyalaya in Madagal, J/Analaitivu Sadhasiwa Maha Vidyalaya in Analaitivu, J/Eluvativu Murugavel Vidyalaya in Eluvativu, Nainativu Maha Vidyalaya and Sri Ganesha Kanista Maha Vidyalaya in Nainativu were benefitted under this donation campaign. The Commanding Officers, officers and sailors of SLNS Elara, Agbo, Wasaba, Gotaimbara and Naval Deployment Veththilaikerni were associated with the programme.
