The government has prepared a programme to paste a sticker in each legally manufactured bottle of arrack under the supervision of the Department of Excise, and to paste the sticker for imported bottles of liquor before releasing from the customs, Cabinet Spokesperson Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said at the weekly Cabinet briefing held at the Government Information Department today (06).
As the government has imposed a large tax over liquor, illegally bottled liquor seem to enter into the market. Under this circumstance many customers have tend to drink unhealthy liquor, Minister said.
Moreover, illegally imported liquor has effected on the governments revenue.
The Proposal submitted to the Cabinet by the Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake on this has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
