President Mahinda Rajapaksa, commencing his four-day state visit to Maldives and Seychelles, arrived in Ibrahim Nasir International Airport in Male this evening. First Lady Shiranthi Wickremasinghe Rajapaksa is accompanying the President.
"You are the first visiting Head of State to visit Male after I assumed duties as the President,” President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom said during the ceremony to welcome President Mahinda Rajapaksa. “It is an honor for me to welcome you. I am very pleased for this opportunity.”
The Government has taken steps to end discrimination against rural students in the educational arena through the Mahindodaya 1,000 school development program, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Schools are upgraded to a complete school under this program, where facilities will be available for the teaching and learning process, he added.
All communities should act with patience and responsibility at a time when the country is marching towards development after ending a 30-year war against terrorism, said Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, on Monday (23).
