At a meeting held at the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to discuss the progress of the fresh fish industry in Sri Lanka, Minister Dr.Rajitha Senarathna said that there is a greater demand for fresh water fish as sea fishing gets more and more expensive due to fuel and the maintenance cost of fishing vessels.
The Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Dr.Rajitha Senarathna stated that a record income of 2 billion (2000 million) rupees is expected through the export of ornamental fish by 2015. This was stated by the Minister at a meeting held last week with the Exporters of ornamental fish.
