    A landslide warning for several districts has been issued Disaster Management Center in the context of the continued heavy rains.According to the warning, Kiriella, Kalawana, Ratnapura, Eheliyagoda divisional secretariat divisions and surrounding areas in Ratnapura District, Ambagamuwa divisional secretariat division and surrounding areas in Nuwaraeliya District, Warakapola and Dehiowita divisional secretariat divisions and surrounding areas in Kegalle District are prone to landslides.

    Four schools would be completely closed from September 15 to October 1 for scrutiny of GCE (A/L) answer scripts, Department of Examinations said.Those schools would be reopened on October 2.The schools that are completely closed for scrutiny of GCE (A/L) answer scripts are as follows:Ananda College, Colombo, Vidyartha College, Kandy, Mahanama Maha Vidyalaya, Matara and Lakdasa De Mel College - Kurunegala.

     

    The Elections Department today requested the people to ensure that their names were in the 2019 electoral register.It said the people could also check the inclusion of their names with the respective Grama Niladhari or by visiting the Elections Department website.In case of any discrepancy, people should contact the department on or before September 19

    The National Election Commission points out that spending excessive public money on various propaganda campaigns on projects or other developments and to promote the image of politicians, will be treated as a misuse of public funds.This was highlighted in a letter signed by the Chairman of the Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya, to all Secretaries, Heads of State Institutions and the Chairmen of Statutory Boards.

    All government schools countrywide are scheduled to reopen on September 2, the Ministry of Education has stated in a circular.However, schools that are being used for the evaluation of the G.C.E. (A.L.) Examination answer scripts are to be reopened on September 16, the circular read.Accordingly, the Kurunegala St. Anne’s College, Colombo Royal College, Colombo Nalanda College, Colombo Hindu College, Kalutara Gnanodaya College, Ratnapura Mihindu College, Kandy Kingswood College, Kandy Seetha Devi College, Galle Vidyaloka College, the Vihara Maha Devi Balika Maha Vidyalaya, and the Badulla Uva Maha Vidyalaya, would be closed until September 15, the ministry stated.

     

    President Maithripala Sirisena has issued a gazette notification instructing the members of the armed forces to maintain "public order" in the country and adjacent waters.The President had issued these instructions to the Army, Navy, and the Air Force under the Public Security Ordinance.The Ministry of Defense said the Emergency Regulations that was in force in the last four-months since the bombings on April 21 will not be extended.

    The 2019 electoral register will be displayed from today at Grama Niladhari offices, District Election Offices and District Secretariats.

     

    The Disaster Management Center (DMC) today issued a landslide warning for certain areas in the Nuwara Eliya District.Residents are requested to be watchful on the possibility of landslides, slope failures, rock falls, cutting failures and ground subsidence in Ambagamuwa, Kotamale and Nuwara Eliya divisional secretariat divisions and surrounding areas if the rain continues, since the rainfall within the past 24 hours has exceeded 75mm.
