Harvesting of potatoes for Yala Season has commenced from Hanguranketha with the participation of the Agriculture Ministry Officials of the Central Province. Potatoes were cultivated in Hanguranketha, Gonapitiya, Aalokapura, Mandaram Nuwara and several other areas during the Yala Season.
A bountiful harvest has been recorded from the areas near the Pidurutalagala Mountain.
Secretary of the Central Province Agriculture Ministry Sisira Ratnayake said that the farmers will be able to get a fair price as the import tax on potatoes has been increased.
