Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala said dengue illness continues to remain the main public health problem in Sri Lanka at the moment.
Ministry of Health has implemented various activities to curtail this problem in Sri Lanka with the collaboration of several other Ministries, participating armed forces and police with health officers.
During the Mosquito Control Week health officials with the assistance of the security forces will inspect houses and building premises to check for mosquito breeding places. Citations will be issued if such places are identified.
The Ministry has requested the public to extend support to the health officials who visit the households by cleaning their premises during this period.
According to the National Dengue Control Unit of Heath Ministry, 19,888 cumulative cases have been reported since 1st January 2015. During the month of August 1,426 suspected dengue cases have been reported from all over the island.
