The Paddy Marketing Board has a stock of 160,000 metric tons of paddy purchased during the Maha season. Therefore, it has become a problem of storing the paddy stocks that are to be purchased during the Yala season.

The PMB Chairman also stated that the Yala season's paddy is now being purchased throughout the country and already 70,000 metric tons of paddy have been purchased.

The PMB head said the storage facilities of the Food Department, Co-operative Department and several stores of the Army have already been utilized to store the Yala season paddy harvest. In case harvest exceeds the capacity of PMB's storage facilities, plans have been made to acquire storage facilities at Mattala Airport.
