    Sri Lanka's first ever Colombo International Maritime Conference next month

    Sri Lanka will hold its first ever Colombo International Maritime Conference (CIMC) next month in line with International Maritime day & UN observance day.

    The three-day event will be held in Colombo from 24 to 26 September 2015 under the theme "Maritime Education and Training".

     

    In addition to the CIMC, the India - Sri Lanka maritime forum will be held on 24 September with the assistance of the Indian High Commission.

     

    Over 20 world class speakers from several organizations including UNCTAD, FMC, IMB/ICC GSF, Drewry, and Maersk, as well as speakers from India and regional ports will address the conference.

     

    The conference will focus on a message to the world that Indian subcontinent will play a key role in trade and maritime activates of the world and Sri Lanka is ready to service the demand.

     

    Sri Lanka, a renowned maritime nation, is well equipped with modern container terminals and most importantly adjacent to the main east-west shipping route reducing transit times for all transshipment traffic originating out of the Indian Subcontinent.

     

    Colombo is serviced by all major shipping lines with a current throughput of 5million TEUs and is ranked 30 among container ports in the world.

     

    In a message Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremasinghe said the Government's priority would be to introduce the necessary reforms and modernization to create a competitive environment in the maritime sector.

     

    The event is supported by the government, private and public sector institutions and associations along with international and local chambers and many international organizations and institutions related to the industry.
