The distinguished oration of the ceremony was conducted by the Navy Commander,Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne with the invitation of ARFRO under the topic of "Sri Lanka the Littoral State: Its Significance and Role in Maritime Security in the Indian Ocean".
Before the oration the Commander Wijegunaratne recollected the past memories of the late General Denis Perera with the participants of Chief of Defence Staff, tri-service commanders and a large gathering of both serving and retired officers of tri- services and relatives of General Deshamannya Denis Perera.
General Denis Perera was a past student of St. Peter's College and served as the Commander of the Army from 1977 to 1981.Later he was appointed as the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Australia and became the Chancellor of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. In honour of his commendable service to the nation, he was awarded the title of Deshamannya by the Government of Sri Lanka in 2000.
