    Economy thrives if only peace exists - Secretary Featured

    "National security plays a pivotal role because any economy of any country would flourish if only peace exists" said Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Mr. BMUD Basnayake while speaking at the International Business Conference of the 'Vehicle Importers Association of Lanka' (VIAL) held at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo Wednesday (15th July).

     

    This year's International Business Conference of the VIAL was held under the theme of "Synchronizing the Rising Vehicle Culture with Societal Elegance".

     

    VIAL is the leading vehicle importing body in Sri Lanka and one of the largest revenue earners through vehicle trade in the island. VIAL also provides opportunity for vehicle importers to order quality vehicles at an affordable price in-view-of facilitating their customers.

     

    Further speaking at the International Business Conference Mr. Basnayake paid much emphasises on the rising environmental issues akin-to global warming, due-to poisonous gas emissions with increased use of automobiles. He also urged on the significance of 'Zero-emission' automobiles which is on-the-rise nowadays.

     

    He also recalled that, "President Maithripala Sirisena is also paying a keen attention on the environmental issues while urging on the necessity of forming environment friendly government policies in the development drive".

     

    Mr. Basnayake also stated that, key belief of the formation of Good Governance is to provide a promising change in the lives of general public in-order-to provide economical benefits, political stability and prosperity. Sharing of experiences among us to develop standards and effective framework is also very important, he also briefed.

     

    In his concluding remarks he insisted on the necessity of collective effort of all to preserve the existing peace in the country.

     

    Deputy Minister of Highways & Investment Promotion, President of VIAL Mr. Sampath Merenchige, President of the Japanese Used Motor Vehicles Exporters Association Mr. S Sato, Foreign Delegates, Commissioner General of Motor Traffic Mr. Jagath Chandrasiri, former Director General of Sri Lanka Customs Dr. Neville Gunewardene, large gathering of vehicle importers and distinguished invitees were also present at the occasion.
