The Government has initiated action to continuously launch programmes to develop the infrastructure in the North. Action was also taken to vest in the public some development projects.
Several building complexes built in the Vavuniya area at a cost of 48.5 million rupees were declared open under the patronage of Northern Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran.
The Nelukulama Vocational Training Centre, the Vavuniya Fish market and Kovilkulama Vocational Training Centre were vested in the public. Among those present were many regional public representatives.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
