The introduction of these ethical guidelines to journalists of media institutions took place under the patronage of Minister Gayantha Karunatilake in Colombo with the participation of State Minister Rosie Senanayake and Secretary to the Media Ministry Karunaratne Paranavithana.

It was emphasized on this occasion the importance of always respecting and honouring the rights of children. The need to focus more attention on reporting child abuse incidents was also stressed on the occasion. Special emphasis has been made with regard to impose of strict legal action against the revelation of the identity of children in abuse cases by media institutions.
