The minister said so after opening the modernized Motor Traffic Office which includes an online registration system to issue driving licences, at the Moneragala District Secretariat recently. The project cost Rs. 10 million.

The minister said earlier people had to wait several months to obtain their driving licences, but with the establishment of the online registration system, vehicle owners can obtain their driving licences within a day.

He said in the past, licence documents had to be sent to Colombo. It took about six months to check the documents and issue licences. However, with the new system, licences can be obtained in less time due to the incorporation of modern technology.
