Reshuffle among senior positions due at SriLankan Airlines

    May 25, 2015

A reshuffle is expected to take place among several senior positions at Sri Lanka's national carrier SriLankan Airlines.

According to reports, several senior officials who have been identified in the report of the board of inquiry on SriLankan Airlines are to see their "duties reassigned" next week.

The management is reportedly seeking government consent to an internally drafted restructuring plan as SriLankan has bled an estimated US$ 850 million within the past four years.

There will be a "reorganization of the internal charts" within the next few days, one of the airline sources has told the media, adding that the management was handling a host of other longstanding problems. An inquiry panel headed by anti-corruption advocate and senior lawyer J. C. Weliamuna last month found shocking details of corruption running into billions of dollars, and abuse of power at the top management of the carrier.

The Panel of Inquiry recommended criminal prosecution of the senior management staff including the former CEO and General Manager.
