NP Governor appreciates role played by the Police

    May 22, 2015

Northern Province Governor H. M. G. S. Palihakkara said that if not for the swift and decisive action taken by the Jaffna law enforcement authorities to quell violent situation triggered by the brutal killing of 18-year-old school girl it could have caused a major crisis in the peninsula.

The Governor also pointed out that such a crisis would have taken a different turn throughout the country due to baseless accusations made during the past few days regarding hoisting of LTTE flag in Jaffna.

He appreciated the action taken by the police to allow the Jaffna population to demonstrate against the killing while using reasonable force against the unruly mob.

Governor Palihakkara said adding that the police earned rare praise from Jaffna media for professionally handling an extremely difficult situation.

Palihakkara also noted that IGP N.K. Illangakoon’s visit to Jaffna in the immediate aftermath of violence has had a positive impact on the ground situation.
