    May 06, 2015

The government will provide land ownership to 377 families in Thalawakele on May 10 under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The implementation project commenced from Badulla, Nuwara Eliya and it will continue in other districts, Minister of Plantation Infrastructure Development Palani Digambaran said .

"What the government promised to do within 100 days through the ministry, will be done within the time frame. The ministry has started the construction work on 300 new houses in Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Matale, Badulla, Rathnapura and Kegalle," he added.

The Minister said allegations made by former Ministers about the progress of the government with regard to the plantation community are baseless. He emphasized that foundation stones have been laid for the houses. The construction work will be completed in four months and houses will be handed over to the people after the general elections, he said.

Each house will be built on a land of seven perches. Each 550 square feet house will cost Rs. 1.2 million. It has two rooms, kitchen, bathroom and toilet. The ministry will initially provide new houses to the people who lost their houses during recent landslides, he added.
