    General Amnesty ends, 23,600 Army absentees report

    Over 23,000 army absentees have responded to the general amnesty offered by the Sri Lanka Army to receive their discharge from the army came to an end.

    The general amnesty period declared by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) from April 2nd to 16th and extended afterwards for another 10 days ended on April 25.

     

    Military Spokesperson, Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said that 23,600 absentees have reported to the respective Regimental Centers to receive their legal discharge from the service.

     

    Over 18,500 of them have been released on completion of procedures and the pending absentees would be released without delay, he informed.

     

    The newly-devised project facilitated the discharge of all officers and other rankers who were absent for more than 6 months by 1 March 2015 after repayment of their financial dues to the Army, if any.
