Most of the paddy purchases have been made from the Hambantota, Moneragala, Polonnaruwa, Ampara, Batticaloa, Kurunegala and Kilinochchi Districts. It is reported that the warehouses in these Districts are full to capacity.
Paddy is being purchased at a higher price for the first time in the country’s history. The Ministry of Food Security said that the Government has so far purchased more than 100 thousand metric tons of paddy from the Maha season.
