Acting Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that, Preliminary investigations into the assassination of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunga was carried out by the Mirihana Police and later, the investigations into the murder were taken over by the Terrorist Investigation Division.

As ordered by the IGP, the Acting Police Spokesman said that  the CID has already sought the extracts related to their investigations from the Mirihana Police station and the TID and CID would start its investigation after analyzing these investigations.

 Lasantha Wickrematunga, the founder and editor of 'The Sunday Leader' was assassinated in January 8, 2009 by four assailants who stopped him on his way to his office and opened fire at him.
