Minister of Plantation Industries Lakshman Kiriella has assured a guaranteed price of between 80 rupees for a kilogram of raw tea leaves with the aim of protecting the small tea estate owners and to minimize dust tea reaching the market. The guaranteed price will be paid from the 15th of this month.
Addressing a news briefing in Colombo on Monday (09), the Minister said that the guaranteed price will be paid under the total supervision of tea board commissioner.and to qualify for the guaranteed price, the tea leaf suppliers should supply tea leaves comprising at least 60 percent of expected quality.
He added that in the purchase of rubber RSS 1 and 2 would be paid 350 rupees, while 325 rupees will be paid for RSS 3. In addition 300 rupees will be paid for RSS 4 and 5.
