Swaraj, who was on a two-day visit to Colombo to prepare the agenda for the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the island next week, has raised the issue regarding the Indian fishermen with Prime Minister Wickremesinghe.

During the discussion, Swaraj has explained India's view that issues of fishermen is a humanitarian issue and an issue of livelihood.

Minister Swaraj also met with her Sri Lankan counterpart, Minister Mangala Samaraweera and held an extensive and cordial discussion covering a wide range of areas relating to bilateral cooperation.

The two ministers have also reviewed arrangements relating to the Prime Minister Modi's forthcoming official visit to Sri Lanka next week.

They agreed to convene the Ninth Session of the Joint Commission, headed by them in Colombo at an early date.

During the visit, Indian Minister called on President Maithripala Sirisena and was hosted to a luncheon by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. Foreign Minister Samaraweera hosted a welcome dinner in Honour of the visiting Minister and her delegation yesterday.

Minister Swaraj also met with the Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament at his residence and the leaders of the major Tamil party Tamil National Alliance (TNA) before her departure last evening.
