The MInistry of Agiruclture in the North Western Province has taken steps to popularize pepper cultivation among farmers in villages and Samurdhi recipients as a home garden.
According to the Agriculture Ministry, financial aid will be granted to low income families that wish to undertake pepper cultivation as a self employment project.
Pepper is the second most important perennial spice crop, next to Cinnamon, in Sri Lankan economy, and the most important perennial spice for domestic consumption.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
