He said CCTV cameras have been installed on the Expressway and emphasised that motorists should adhere to speed limits of a normal road.
He invited the people to greet and welcome the Pope by gathering by the roadsides on Tuesday (13) on which date the Pope will arrive in Sri Lanka and will be escorted in a motorcade via the old Negombo road to Colombo. Pope Francis will arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at 9.45 a.m. tomorrow.
Pope Francis is scheduled to hold the Holy Mass and Canonization of Blessed Joseph Vaz at Galle Face Green in Colombo on Tuesday (14) at 8.30am. People are requested to be at the venue before 6.30 am.
SSP Rohana requested the general public to use public transport to arrive at the venue although two vehicle parks have been arranged in order to ease traffic congestion.
SSP Rohana revealed that 24,000 policemen have been deployed for security during the period of the Pope’s visit out of which 21,000 police personnel for security in Colombo and the BIA while another 3,000 police personnel for security at Madhu.
