The Irrigation Department sources said that out of 73 major reservoirs 28 reservoirs are spilling while spill gates of four reservoirs have been kept opened. Especially the Kaudulla reservoir in the Polonnaruwa District, Veheragala and Udugamvehera reservoirs in the Hambantota District and Deduru Oya reservoir in the Kurunegala District have started to spill and the water levels of 73 major reservoirs have risen up to 91%.

The Irrigation Department has already identified 3000 hectares damaged while 25,000 hectares partly damaged.
