The construction work of the Matara-Beliatta railway line will be completed in 2016 and already 32% of construction work has been completed, the Railway Department revealed.
According to the Department, the biggest tunnel in Sri Lanka is being set up at Nakuttiya. It is in extent of 606 metres. About 229 acres were acquired from 1,225 families for the construction of the railway line and Rs. 978 million was paid as compensation. Railway stations will be set up at Kekanadura, Babarenda and Wewrukannala.
