Construction work on Lotus Tower, the highest Tower in South Asia and the world's 19th tallest building will be completed in the middle of next year. Its expenditure will exceed 104 million US Dollars.
Its construction work commenced in 2012. A brainchild of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the 350 metre tall building will provide telecommunication facilities to at least 50 separate broadcasting and telecasting services.
Work on 150 metres of the Tower has already been completed. The construction work is handled by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission with the cooperation of the Engineering Division of the Moratuwa University and other local engineers.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
