NPC has spent only 25% of its allocations

    October 27, 2014

Mr. Sinnathurai Thavarajah, Leader of the opposition of the Northern Provincial Council, at a press conference held by him at the Government Information Department on today (27) said that the Northern Provincial Council which completed one year since establishment  fell on the 24th of this month, had spent less than 25% of its allocations made to it by the Central Government, that too was for purchase of vehicles and luxury goods to the Chief Minister and his Cabinet Ministers and not for any developmental activities thereby failing miserably to the solve the problems faced by the people of the North.

Speaking further, he challenged either the Chief Minister or any other responsible TNA politician for an open debate in this regard.

Speaking at length, Mr. Thavarajah said that though the Chief Minister and the Northern Provincial Councilors were invited for participation at the District Development Committees where His Excellency the President was to address the meetings, no one turned up fearing their self-interest agendas would be divulged at such meetings.

At these meetings, the President had requested the Northern Provincial Councilors not to mix up politics and development, added Mr. Thavarajah. He also brought to the notice of the participants, the allocations made to the Northern Provincial Council and how the funds had been disbursed with facts and figures
