It is planned to commence transportation of fuel to North by train with the commencement of Yal Devi train service between Colombo and Jaffna.
The Railway Department has decided to commence transportation of fuel by train, from Kolonnawa depot of the Petroleum Corporation to Jaffna. Presently fuel is transported by train only up to vavuniya. Railway Department sources said that It is possible to transport 500 thousand liters of fuel by train at once thus saving large sums that would incur if bowsers were to be used. (ST/KH)
