The Department of Railways has taken steps to reconstruct the Jaffna Railway Station with the modern facilities at a cost of 150 million rupees while preserving its ancient architecture. The reconstruction of the platforms and official quarters has also been completed.
A food city, Bank of Ceylon branch and air conditioned passenger waiting area will be some of the conveniences available to passengers. A new ticketing counter too has been constructed.
According to the Department, Kodikamam and Chavakachcheri railway stations are being reconstructed at present while the reconstruction work of the Navatkuli station has already been completed.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
