    Rice at controlled prices

    September 14, 2014

The government has taken action to sell rice below the control price to release adequate rice stocks to the market to provide relief to the people.

Accordingly, Lanka Sathosa has taken steps to deploy 100 lorries at every junction across the country to sell rice at concessionary prices. This move would help to avert any rice shortage and stabilize rice prices in the local market.

Lanka Sathosa lorries will sell rice at six selected Railway Stations. Consumers can purchase rice below the government stipulated controlled prices from today at the Maradana, Bambalapitiya, Colombo Fort, Kelaniya, Wellawatte and Ragama Railway Stations.

Accordingly, a kilo of white raw rice will be sold at Rs. 64, while a kilo of white samba at Rs. 75, Super Kiri Samba at Rs. 90 and Basmathi rice at Rs. 95.
