WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND
The deep depression was in the Bay of Bengal sea area has developed into a cyclonic storm and now located near latitude 13.8N, longitude 89.3E. It is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during next 24 hours and into a very severe cyclonic storm during the subsequent 36 hours and move north-northwestwards towards Bangladesh coast. Heavy showers or thundershowers, very strong winds and very rough seas can be expected in the sea areas between latitude 13N and 22N, longitude 85E and 91E. Naval and fishing communities (particularly multiday boats) are requested to be vigilant in this regards. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be Westerly to South-westerly and speed will be (20-40) kmph in the sea areas around the island. Temporarily strong gusty winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
