In a bid to enhance the peaceful and harmonious co existence between students, academic and non ~cademic staff the University has taken steps to increase cultural programs and activities.
At present there is no suitable auditorium where such activities could be held to accommodate 1500 persons within the university premises or even in the city of Matara.
The Annual Convention of the University has been held at the University Gymnasium at Wellamadama each year and the lack of a modern auditorium with seating capacity for 1500 is a great short coming for university students, staff and even the residents of Matara.
The Universities envisages of gaining international recognition and standing and has plans of hosting national as well as international conventions in the future. Hence, a state of the art auditorium within the University premises would be beneficial.
The University of Ruhuna is the only University in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. The students, academic, non academic and research staff of the University have shown vast progress in the 35 years of the Universities' existence with some, gaining world recognition . (ST/KH)
