    Allocation of 2284 million rupees for Economic Development in Matara

    The Ministry Economic Development  has allocated 2284 million rupees for development work in the Matara District for the year 2014.

    A sum of 1914.48 million rupees has been approved for 2674 projects.


    While 965.85 million rupees has been allocated for development work in the province so far,  869.42 million rupees has been approved for 623 projects.


    Under the development programme 'One Project for One Village' 650 million rupees have been allocated out of which 612.9 million has been approved for 948 projects.


    314 million rupees has been allocated for the 'Gama Neguma' development programme.  472 projects costing 248.885 million rupees has already been approved.


    For special projects forwarded by the representatives of the people, a sum of 175 million rupees has been allocated.  Already a sum of 71.195 million rupees has been approved for 210 projects.


    For   the Ruhunu Udana Development programme 92.15 million rupees has been allocated but approval has been given for 226 projects costing 82.3 million rupees.


    For decentralized development work the allocation is 45 million rupees.  Under this programme 32.89 million rupees has been granted for 142 approved projects.


    These development programmes will cover 650 Grama Niladari Divisions  in 16 Provincial Secretariats.


    While most of these projects are being implemented, some have been completed.  However Director Plan Implementation for Matara District S.T.Vidura Prasanna said that all these projects have to be completed by 31st of December, this year.(NJ/KH)
